Environment & Climate Change

Malta may be small, but it is part of a larger whole. While a full green transition in Malta may look like a drop in the bucket on a global scale, it will improve the air quality, land and sea environment of the Maltese islands. This will lead to an improved quality of life for all. As Europe we must rise to its responsibilities to address the global challenges that threaten our common future. These challenges encompass a wide array of critical issues such as climate change, international trade relations, sustainable agriculture, food security, biodiversity, displacement and migration, and international development cooperation. The escalating consequences of global warming, the alarming loss of biodiversity, and the pervasive pollution of air and water are testament to the urgent need for action. It is becomes imperative to initiate a strategic shift away from fossil fuels to safeguard the future of humanity and the planet. Volt advocates for a pragmatic strategy with an increasing reliance on renewables over time to sustainably meet our energy needs.

The 5+1 Challenges

Volt has defined 5+1 fundamental Challenges that need to be tackled in each European country and in Europe as a whole.

Why 5 + 1 Challenges?

The 5 Challenges are basically the same for every country, but their implementation can be adapted on the national level to take into account local realities.

The +1 Challenge – our proposal to reform and strengthen the EU – is identical across all our national programmes.
